No eyeglass lenses, not even glass lenses, are scratch-proof.

At Cristall Opticians Toronto we offer lenses that are treated front and back with a clear, scratch-resistant coating. This coating makes the lens much harder and is, therefore,  more resistant to scratching. Most scratches develop from dropping your glasses or cleaning them with a paper towel.

Kids' lenses, especially, benefit from a scratch-resistant hard coat for greater durability

Since scratch-resistant coatings are sometimes optional, make sure you ask to for it. To keep your eyewear looking brand new, proper storage is necessity. Make sure you store them in a case when not in use, and remember to clean your lenses with a microfiber cloth.

Anti-reflective coating (also called AR coating ) is a microscopically thin multilayer coating that eliminates reflections from the front and back surface of your eyewear. AR coating makes your lenses nearly invisible so people can focus on your eyes, not distracting reflections from your eyeglasses. Anti-reflective coating also eliminates glare caused by light reflecting from your lenses. With reflections eliminated, lenses with AR coating provide better vision for night driving and more comfortable vision for reading and computer use.

UV or Ultra Violet filters protect your eyes from constant exposure to Ultraviolet light. Most commonly people get this light from the sun. Similar to sunscreen  protecting your skin, UV filters keeps the sun's UV rays from harming your eyes.

UV rays contribute to the  the development of cataracts, eye-surface problems like pterygia and pinguecula, and macular degeneration. Protecting your eyewear with a UV filter can reduce your risk of developing one of these problems.
